Here’s a list of some of the best kit I’ve tried and tested over the months for Periscope. Things like tripod, lenses, external mic’s etc really help to excel your Periscopes to the next level in terms of production values and quality.
Microphones
Rode smartLav
A superb quality microphone which allows you to simply plug an play. Works great for Periscope and will really up your production values with its crystal clear audio quality. It’s perfect for scoping outside where you may have background noise and wind. The included windshield will help deliver quality audio to your streams, even in difficult environments.
RODELink Wiresless Filmmaker System
Wireless microphones can open up the opportunities for what you can do with and on Periscope. The RodeLink Wireless kit is great for Periscope! With excellent quality and a price that won’t break the bank, i’ve been massively impressed with my kit. NOTE: For this kit to work with an iPhone/most androids you will also need to also purchase the Rode SC7 patch cable.
Sennheiser AVX Digital Wireless Microphone Combo Set
Everyone always asks me what microphone I use when I’m out about about interviewing people. When I’m on Red Carpets and behind the scenes I need something thats plug and play, quick to set up and wireless. That’s exactly what the AVX kit is. You get both a Lav and Handheld microphone, plus a tiny reciever. The sound quality is unbeatable and the whole set up is PERFECT for Periscope. NOTE: For this kit to work with an iPhone/most androids you will also need to also purchase and XLR to TRRS cable.
Rode NT-USB Studio Quality Microphone
This mic is perfect for podcasters, singers or generally anyone who wants to achieve superb studio quality sound. The mic comes with it’s own handy mini desk stand and plugs directly into your laptop via USB. It can also be used with Periscope when you purchase the additional Rode SC7 patch cable.
Cheaper Lav Mic Alternatives
These microphones are slightly cheaper than the Rode, and are still effective BUT are no-where near the quality of the Rode (above). In fact i’ve found them to be very ‘hot’ (loud) and in some situations, i’ve chosen not to use them for this reason.

If you’re looking for a great sounding but cheap hot shoe mic for either your DSLR or Mobile Rig, then this is the one to go for. I use it for all my DSLR vlogs and iPhone Rigs.:
Lenses
Lenses are becoming more and more vital for Periscope because they allow you to do so much more! For example, it’s hard to do an interview with someone using the front facing camera… you’d need to have an extremely long arm to get the both of you in shot. But with a wide angled lens, it makes interviewing a breeze, and allows you to hold the phone close (for good audio) whilst still fitting everyone in shot.
My favourite so far are by Olloclip! They’re brilliant! They give a crystal clear image and allow you to completely transform you Periscope shows.

Olloclip Active Lens (Telephoto and Ultra Wide) – A top lens that every Scoper should have in their kit bag ready to grab! The Telephoto lens will allow you to get 2x zoom (getting you close to the action), and the Ultra Wide Angle lens opens up a world of possibilities for your scopes!
Android & Cheaper Alternatives – Although Olloclip don’t just cater for iPhones (and go check out their website to see their full range of lenses), you can also buy these cheaper alternatives below which clip on to pretty much any device. Although the quality of the lens doesn’t match up to the Olloclip lenses, they do still give good performance for Periscope.
Tripods / Mounts
A steady shot can sometimes be the difference between a good scope, and a great scope!
Having a strong, sturdy and adaptable tripod that you can rely on is super important. My go to mini tripod is the Arkon 11″ below:

Lighting
Lighting is KEY to Periscope! The more light, the better. Low light means the image will be super grainy and Periscope / your device will have to work harder to transmit that image. So get yourself some good lighting for your scopes.
I use these cheap softboxes that you can get off amazon. They’re designed to give a soft, natural, daylight look… and they work brilliantly:
Wireless Memory
Ever get that “Memory Full” notification on your phone? If you broadcast regularly, you’re going to fill your devices hard drive up FAST!
The SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick is a great solution. It’s a normal USB stick with a twist… It has built in WIFI. Connect up to 3 devices to it at at time and transfer data from your iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire, Android /iOS devices, PC’s and Mac’s wirelessly.
External Batteries
Periscope is a battery killer! Whether your viewing a broadcast or being the broadcaster, Periscope will drain your battery pretty fast. That’s why its massively important that you have an external battery pack (or two) with you. If you plan to be shooting in locations where plugging into mains power isn’t going to be possible, take a look at these battery packs:

Accessories For GoPro
As audio comes directly from the GoPro’s on board mic it is import to use a case for the GoPro that allows the microphone to pick up the full audio field. I find the case below works great and it still allows you to mount your GoPro as normal. It even comes with a lens protector too:
